A Pastoral Prayer for the day of the elections

Oh, mighty God,

By the sound of your voice, everything that exists was created. By the power of your word, you sustain the world. Enthroned in the heavens while remaining close to your people here on earth. You know all, see all, and nothing catches you by surprise. Your word reminds us that kings and rulers can take their stand and plot against your anointed one, but you remain calmly seated, laughing at their plans. Who is like you?

Father, as your children, we are truly fortunate to dwell beneath the protective strength of your mighty arm, and we are firmly grasped within your hands. We live under the wings of the omnipotent. We lack nothing. Searching for our hope and safety elsewhere is completely futile.

Lord, please remind us of the life, security, and peace we find only in you during this chaotic political season. For we know that only the ways of the Lord do not venture left nor right, but they are straight and the upright will go in them. Aid us in avoiding anxiety and fatigue as we await the appointment of our new president, but teach us to wait upon the Lord. For you remove kings and set them up, even the ones that exist now are there because of you.

We are aware that many, including your church, will exercise their right to vote today, but it is our duty as heavenly citizens to pray. We offer our prayers for our country, asking for repentance and the removal of the idols of power, wealth, and fame. May the injustices be corrected, and may your justice prevail. Dear God, we seek your forgiveness for this nation. Grant us the strength to accept the outcomes, knowing that they are within your control. Our plans and thoughts may differ from yours, but we submit to your will. We place our trust in your goodness.
To the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, be the glory forever, Amen.
