These five solas: that we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, as revealed in Scripture alone, to the glory of God alone, each name a different facet of this conviction.
Sola Scriptura (Scripture Alone)
Affirms the Bible as the church’s highest, sufficient, and final authority because it is God’s inspired Word.
Sola Fide (Faith Alone)
Justification is by faith alone. The merit of Christ, imputed to us by faith, is the sole ground of our acceptance by God, by which our sins are remitted and imputed to Christ.
Solus Christus (Christ Alone)
Declares that Jesus is the only mediator between God and humanity, and that His person and work are the sole basis of our justification.
Sola Gratia (Grace Alone)
Insist that salvation is a free gift of God’s unearned favor, received not by human works or merits but by trusting in Christ’s finished work.
Soli Deo Gloria (to the Glory of God Alone)
Reminds us that the entire work of creation and redemption—from beginning to end—has one ultimate purpose: that God Himself would be praised and honored above all.
