Elders
Our church follows the New Testament form of governance, meaning it is led by a body of elders. In the New Testament, we see that churches were shepherded by a plurality of elders (Acts 20:17; Titus 1:5).
Elders are men who meet the biblical qualifications, and who have been carefully nominated, trained, examined, and ordained to provide spiritual oversight and leadership for the congregation. Scripture outlines these qualifications in 1 Timothy 3:1–7.
Deacons
Deacons are men who likewise meet biblical qualifications and are set apart through nomination, training, examination, and ordination. Their primary calling is to care for the practical and physical needs within the church.
The word deacon means “servant,” reflecting their role in supporting the ministry of the church. In Acts 6, the apostles appointed deacons so that they could remain focused on prayer and the ministry of the Word. The qualifications for this office are given in 1 Timothy 3:8–13.
